The start of an adventure

It's true that bright ideas come up in moments of dissatisfaction, or at least this happened to me exactly a week ago. It’s also true that, usually, they have always been there, waiting for you to be ready to see them.
As you can read in the About section of the website, I developed a project around evocative objects and personal mini-museums in the summer of 2016 for my MA dissertation. I remember my professor saying that writing a dissertation can be fun and it’s in the student’s power to make it so. Therefore, I started realising that I could produce something that wouldn’t be an end in itself, rather a project that I really believed in, through a research I would have carried out with passion. I succeeded in this intent, in fact I never had times of total discouragement or refusal towards what I was doing. The practical activity I organised at the Victoria and Albert museum in London worked very well and I found great support in my classmates and friends, who allowed me to test it and gave me their important feedback. But after the submission, as it normally happens with academic assignments, I kind of closed that chapter, ready to focus my attention on other things such as house and job hunting: my university life was over and I could finally start building my ‘real’ life.
My first ever job was in a clothing shop and lasted only one month, a period that felt much longer, but that, at the same time, I am grateful for because I learned a lot. After that, I became Visitor Experience Assistant in a museum, which is what I’m still doing. 2017 was a year marked by the constant effort I put in numerous job applications, none of which led me to a career change – it seems like, here in London, finding a position in the cultural sector is such a competitive matter! Now that 2018 has just started, I want to make the most of it in every sense, but especially from a working perspective, and resuming the project I caringly conceived to accomplish my MA seems the perfect thing to do.
I’ve come to believe that having a personal mission to pursue is essential for conducting a creative life. I can’t explain how happy I am about the decision I made to give my project a go. At this early stage, I can’t even imagine where this will lead me…and, above all, if it will actually lead me somewhere! Nonetheless, I’m so excited about it that at the moment my only wish is to be able to make it exactly how I picture it in my mind, and if it will be of inspiration for someone, that would only be the icing on the cake.
I decided to add this Blog to my website to document the process of the Mini Museum Project in a direct way that can reflect the evolution of my thoughts. The Mini Museum section of the website is my personal collection, but I think it will always be a work in progress as my life progresses. I hope you will enjoy reading through the 'biographies' of my evocative objects and that you’ll also get a sense of who I am: objects speak for their owners.
