The Book

Title: Jane Eyre book.

Maker: Wordsworth Editions.

Materials: recycled paper.

Provenance: small underground bookshop in Old Street tube station, London.

Mode of acquisition: purchase (for only £1.50!).

Time owned: since autumn 2015, a few months after moving to London for my MA.

Evocativeness: just the sight of it brings me back to when I saw Jane Eyre the film at the cinema with my mum and absolutely loved it, hence decided to read the book. Every time I think about it, the whole period of my life when I was living in my first proper flat after graduating comes to my mind and makes me smile… It has been my loyal commuting companion for many tube journeys to my old place of work and will always represent my staple novel that made me fall in love with English literature even more.

Anecdote: it sit unopened, collecting dust on the shelf of my student accommodation room for about a year, as I was scared of it at first, being a non-native English speaker (or reader, rather)...it's not exactly an easy read!
